Over 400 car
Exhibits plus over 50 motorbikes and scooters plus commercial vehicles turned out with record numbers of visitors from the Doncaster area.
Organised jointly by the Rotary Club of Doncaster St. George’s and the Traditional Car Club of Doncaster, a tremendous amount of work was put in to make this the best show so far and another benchmark was achieved with fantastic comments received on the day and afterwards about the organisation, the displays, entertainment, food and, of course the wonderful weather.
The range of Exhibits was diverse from a locally owned 1907 Stanley Steam Car through to several examples of the latest exotic Ferrari and Maserati brands. Examples of cars were on display from makes far and wide, examples being a Model T Ford made in Manchester to a 1960s Ford Taunus made in Germany. The Americas were also well represented with examples from Ford, Chevrolet, Chrysler and Dodge. Some rare cars were there in multiple numbers like the two examples of the Jowett Jupiter Sports cars from the 1950s, both in the same red colour, the pre-war examples of MGs, the record number of Nissan Skyline cars and great contrasts like one of the last Reliant three wheelers made, alongside a near-concours Jaguar E-type Sports!
The Land Rover Series 2 Club took the opportunity to show a variety of models from standard short wheelbase models through to specialist examples for the military. Along with a US Jeep there were other military vehicles on display and, not to be outdone, thanks to the Sheffield Transport Museum, they brought along examples of period buses, one of which was a Doncaster double-decker that some of our visitors may well have ridden on years ago.
Motorbikes and scooters were better covered this year, again with record numbers turning out.
This year a record number of traders attended the event, sixty in all, covering a wide range of services and good from car accessories to greetings cards, plants to gifts. Catering was also much improved with an extensive array of refreshments on display from a period tearoom to beefburgers, a licensed bar through to specialist coffees.
The Show is always geared around a full day of entertainment that all the family can enjoy, hence not only vehicle displays and parades but also dancers, cheer leaders, archery, jazz band, children’s rides and Punch and Judy plus the renowned Two Grand (granddad and granddaughter) singing especially for us.
Plans are already being made for 2012 with an even larger event with more to enjoy and the date has already been set at Sunday 15th July. Keep viewing our website for ongoing information.
