About Rotary
Welcome to the Web Site of the Rotary Club of Doncaster St Georges - part of the largest humanitarian service organisation of business and professional men and women in the world with some 1.2 million members! In the last year more than £20 million was raised by Rotarians in the British Isles for charitable causes, as well as £6.5 million raised for the Asian Tsunami Appeal.
Each Rotary Club operates autonomously and selects causes it wishes to support each year as well as contributing to International and national Rotary programmes. Like other Rotary Clubs we are a group of like minded people who have come together, over a period of time, with a view to giving something back to the Community that supports our professional and business activity. There is as well, a strong Social aspect to the life of the Club, involving partners and families and links with our twin Club, Hemer, in Germany. As a service based organisation we endeavour to support local causes through our Community Grant Scheme and by contributing to International programmes such as the Rotary polio eradication programme or the Freeplay Foundation Radio scheme. We meet once each week, in the evening, sometimes with invited guests who may be interested in joining Rotary – membership is by invitation, linked to a vocational category. Interest from prospective members with the necessary qualities is always welcome and you can find further information about becoming a Rotarian elsewhere on our site. Whether you want to join Rotary or want to find out more about the support we offer to local organisations, we hope that you find what you are looking for and we look forward to hearing from you.
Becoming a Rotarian
Membership is vital to a Rotary club's operations. This club welcomes enthusiastic and service-minded men and women to become new members.
Prospective members must actively hold - or be retired from - a professional, proprietary, executive or managerial position. If you are interested in becoming involved please do not attempt to guess at our interpretation of this rule. The Secretary will be happy to advise you. You must have the desire and ability to serve and to meet the club's attendance requirements for its weekly meetings. Following changes in 2001 this is now much easier to achieve. The club seeks to draw members from a wide variety of occupations. In this manner it is assured of having the widest possible resources and expertise at its disposal. The Membership processA person being considered for membership is invited by a member to attend one or more Club Meetings to learn more About Rotary. The sponsor may then submit the name of the candidate to begin the evaluation process. Others who are interested in membership, but don't know any Rotarians, can contact their local club Secretary. If you are interested in joining this club, you can Contact the club secretary on line. Prospective Rotarians should appreciate that in meeting weekly, and in helping to organize service to the Community in the company of like minded people, they can enjoy a great deal of fun and fellowship. Whilst not a debating society, Rotary can offer people the experience of discussing topics in front of a medium sized audience and making presentations to the membership. It could give you a wider view of Doncaster, its people and events and provide experience of running projects and interacting with diverse groups. Regular speakers could inform you of some of the more unusual walks of life, interests and commitments which local people are keen to share. It can significantly help people still pursuing a career by building confidence and through opportunities for networking. More detailed information can be obtained by following the various links on this site.
